Thursday June 17 - Drawing Class at ArtServe

Drawing on the Dark Side
and HANDS! (102)

We will be drawing on black.
Bring your colored pencils, chalks, etc.
Just plain white is good for this too.

Those of you who have silverpoint, bring it.
I will bring some samples of black gessoed paper
You can see what happens with the metal point

Black is a great experiment for value studies (negative)
It is also interesting with color (the light is absorbed, not reflected)

I will also have a hands demo again.
I will bring info on hand anatomy

Please bring black paper if you have it.

See you thursday!

"If someone says, "can't," that shows you what to do" John Cage

Peggy Probably the hardest part of making art is to show your soul.  It has been said that the first 20 seconds of a drawing or painting set the mood for the next 20 hours. Gesture is everything. It is not so much how long a piece might take but when you made it.  Last weekend I went to Art Wynwood and saw  a lot of very marketable  artwork. After leaving, my friend, Susan Megur asked me what piece stuck in my mind. I could not answer that question. What a shame.  Make your art like it is part of your soul. Find what it is about something that you make that moves you. Make it about emotion, politics, color or just plain beauty. Anything that makes you and your viewer move from their comfort zone of visual boredom .  Cool artists of the week: Sybelle Peretti works with transparent glass images. Stops me in my tracks! SINGAPORE BIENNALE 2016

Atlases map and mirror our journeys of discovery and often make visible more than just physical terrain; driven by our needs and desires, they embolden us to venture into the unknown. From our coordinates in Southeast Asia, the arc of our shared histories encompasses East and South Asia. These regions bear the imprints of one another's diverse cultures, even as boundaries are also constantly reimagined. Fraught and unstable, these borders are characterized by fluid mo...
