2.20
DRAWING FOUNDATIONS; LEARNING TO SEE
Wednesdays 9 - noon
Beginners

Fall in love with drawing. You will learn to see like an artist. I introduce the elements and principles of design and visual perception. You will learn about line, value, perspective and composition. This class is designed to change the way you look at the world and at art. Great music - very meditative.

2.32
SEEING - KNOWING - DRAWING
Intermediate - Advanced
Wednesdays 12:30 - 3:30

This class will stress principles (how we manipulate the elements) of drawing. You will create finished pieces and may also work on your personal projects. We will experiment with materials and push the renderings into polished finished artwork. Learn to evaluate your work through regular critiques.

3.28
LIFE DRAWING
Beginning - Advanced
Thursdays 12:30 - 3:30

Learn and practice drawing the nude figure. Each class will have a handout on anatomy, gesture or style. I have been studying Robert Beverly Hale's lectures. He encourages you to, "become aware of the anatomical forms in terms of the elements and principles of drawing and composition. In other words, what to do with them." Each student will receive individual attention.

3.25
ALL - MEDIA PAINTING
Beginning - Intermediate
Friday 9 - 12:30

Learn color, technique and composition through weekly demos, critiques and handouts. Learn from other artists projects. I will set up a still life or work from your own reference material.

3.26
ALL - MEDIA PAINTING
Intermediate - Advanced
Friday 12:30 - 3:30

Individual and group instruction in composition, color choices and techniques. You will be challenged and encouraged to develop your unique artistic voice.

"Drawing is the honesty of the art. There is no possibility of cheating. It is either good or bad," Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali what gesture!!! Value drawings.  The old masters called the use of value to show form, "Chiaorscuro." Usually low key compositions with intense lighting. To my life drawing students, see how they build the "scaffolding." This method of teaching involves one year of intensive drawing from casts. Look how emotional these paintings and drawings have become by not "reporting" all of the facts. They are creating an illusion of reality, not reporting all of the details. "Thought must come first" ~ Odd Nerdrum

"Moonfairy" Marcia @ CSMART Hour sketch Come join us Thursday evenings 6:30 - 8:30 Open studio ~ no instruction "You are about to die. There are two paintings on the wall, A Rembrandt and a Mondrian. which is the one you wish to see last? Live, love, and make art like that moment; as if you were about to die."~ Odd Nerdrum American Artist Magazine's October edition features an article about Odd Nerdrum. The article discusses Nerdrum's work as philosophical allegories. Always intriguing work with spiritual undertones. Reminiscent of Rembrandt. Nerdrum uses only four colors but he premixes the palette and tubes the colors he uses in his paintings. Curiously, he mixes blue from mars black and titanium white. SINGAPORE BIENNALE 2016

Lucky me. I arrived in Singapore to find their Biennale in the Singapore Art Museum and other Museums and institutions around town. It has been a great introduction to the Southeast Asian geography and culture. Many visits have pulled me out of an extreme state of jet lag and whetted my appetite to learn more about Southeast Asia. Singapore Biennale AN ATLAS OF MIRRORS - AT ONCE, MANY WORLDS "In charting our way around the world, humankind has relied on instruments of vision as well as navigation. Atlases map and mirror our journeys of discovery and often make visible more than just physical terrain; driven by our needs and desires, they embolden us to venture into the unknown. From our coordinates in Southeast Asia, the arc of our shared histories encompasses East and South Asia. These regions bear the imprints of one another's diverse cultures, even as boundaries are also constantly reimagined. Fraught and unstable, these borders are characterized by fluid mo...
