What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough, "Eugene Delacroix"

ART MIAMI! Romi and I went to Art Miami, Scope and Art Asia on Saturday. Amazing show of interesting ideas - some quite entertaining as well as fantastic skill and technical ability. Art Asia always opens my eyes. My experiences traveling left the impression that not only is Asia on the other side of the earth, but on the other side of your eyeballs. Here are some of my favorites. Too many to list - Just a few that left an impression on me. Sybelle Peretti  She etches into glass on which she manipulates pigment and images. The photos do not do her justice. I saw her work in Scope last year - still it stops me in my tracks. Julie Heffernan   I love "Self portrait sitting on world." Look carefully at these classically painted allegories. Rachel Bess  All of her beautifully painted, thought provoking portraits were sold. I was immediately drawn to her painting technique - stunning - and the imagery she chose. Koon Wai-bong  Except...

Renovating our kitchen and waiting for the refrigerator to be repaired for 1 1/2 weeks. Life is kinda upside down - or simpler. Memories of cruising on a sailboat -  collecting water to wash dishes in the small sink! Ah - as well with my work right now. Looking forward to making some paintings and finishing my next monster drawing. Nica coming to sit again tomorrow morn. Painting with my favorite artists in my studio. Very cool link posted by  Sibel Kocabaşı on Facebook Love this - check it out - life drawing students! Vanitas Neysa Grassi  These paintings are all about the process and surface. Beautiful. Tony Scherman  This man has the ability and talent that shine through whatever medium he chooses. It would be interesting to see his paintings of encaustic on canvas with oils. This ease with imagery transcends technique. Susanna Coffey  Everyone should paint a self portrait Sidney Goodman  Yes, he paints AND draws  A true inspiration...

"It takes two to paint. One to paint, the other to stand by with an axe to kill him before he spoils it." ~William Merritt Chase

"Art is Nature speeded up and God slowed down," Chazal

Every month a group of respected artists/friends meet for "Critique group" This Sunday, the word of the afternoon was "destroy it! I'm bored!" How do we artists push ourselves to think differently? "Release yourself from yourself," Steve Assael I guess my aching arm, back and hand are trying to tell me to  "step away from the painting." Friday, I took my few painting students to the Boca Raton Museum of Art First, we wandered through Frederico Uribe's incredible installation He was awarded a grant from puma shoe company Created an entire rainforest from partially completed PUMA shoes IT IS A MUST SEE! Very refreshing, clever and fun. Frederico Uribe   Really look at how he found similar shapes He saw flowers in plumbing parts, wings in artificial nails. Here is an artist who thinks! Don't miss this exhibit! It will be leaving in early November. Juan Bautista Nieto  Unbelievable  Stunning...
