What moves men of genius, or rather what inspires their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough, "Eugene Delacroix"

ART MIAMI!

Romi and I went to Art Miami, Scope and Art Asia on Saturday.
Amazing show of interesting ideas - some quite entertaining
as well as fantastic skill and technical ability.

Art Asia always opens my eyes. My experiences traveling left the impression that not only is Asia on the other side of the earth, but on the other side of your eyeballs.

Here are some of my favorites.
Too many to list - Just a few that left an impression on me.

Sybelle Peretti She etches into glass on which she manipulates pigment and images. The photos do not do her justice. I saw her work in Scope last year - still it stops me in my tracks.

Julie Heffernan  I love "Self portrait sitting on world." Look carefully at these classically painted allegories.

Rachel Bess All of her beautifully painted, thought provoking portraits were sold. I was immediately drawn to her painting technique - stunning - and the imagery she chose.

Koon Wai-bong Exceptional Chinese ink painter. Scrolls of silk painted in traditional style devoid of human images. I was stunned from across the aisle.

Robert Schefman Incredible allegorical paintings. I saw the "Clue" paintings inspired from the board game, Clue. Think of the characters and the props to solve the mystery. Extremely well done. Drawings of the same incredible high caliber.

SINGAPORE BIENNALE 2016

Lucky me. I arrived in Singapore to find their Biennale in the Singapore Art Museum and other Museums and institutions around town. It has been a great introduction to the Southeast Asian geography and culture. Many visits have pulled me out of an extreme state of jet lag and whetted my appetite to learn more about Southeast Asia. Singapore Biennale AN ATLAS OF MIRRORS - AT ONCE, MANY WORLDS "In charting our way around the world, humankind has relied on instruments of vision as well as navigation. Atlases map and mirror our journeys of discovery and often make visible more than just physical terrain; driven by our needs and desires, they embolden us to venture into the unknown. From our coordinates in Southeast Asia, the arc of our shared histories encompasses East and South Asia. These regions bear the imprints of one another's diverse cultures, even as boundaries are also constantly reimagined. Fraught and unstable, these borders are characterized by fluid mo

Drawing Class March 4, 2010

FINALLY!!!! Hands Hands Hands I will show you the anatomy of your lower arms, wrist and hands. You will understand the underlying basic shapes and proportions of your wrist, thumb and fingers. I will bring some of my anatomy books with incredible drawings. Please bring your sketchbooks, pencils and erasers and some tracing paper. I will bring a roll if you don't have any for class. Find pictures in magazines or photos of hands. Bring them to class. Try to find foreshortened views. (Yes, that F word!) We will be finding the shapes in the photos. You will be tracing the anatomy so you understand it when you observe your own hands. You are your best model. Perfect sketchbook fodder. Waiting for anything will never be boring again! See you Thursday! I will not be able to teach on 3/25. I am joining the board of National Association of Women Artists. One of their few board meetings lies on that thursday. Ink wash lessons were scheduled for this day. I will discuss an alternate day when
