Drawing Class Thursday, April 8, 2010

In honor of Spring (and Bob) FLOWERS!

We will be 'demystifying" flowers.
I will bring both real and (not) for you to study.
A specific light source makes it easier to describe their shape.
Remember, as the light bounces around inside the folds, it becomes warmer, not darker.

My most favorite teacher in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE
is Jan Hart (next to my dear friend Jane)
Check out her website!
She just moved from New Mexico to Costa Rica
She offers workshops in watercolor painting in Costa Rica
(anyone interested in joining me?)
Also, here is the book I was mentioning the other day,
"A Watercolor Artist's guide to Exceptional Color."
She is a delightful person and brilliantly talented teacher.

Also,
the Susan K. Black Foundation sponsors the "Blossom" competition
Check out who submitted and won in the past.
Some very fine painters made a go for the big prize.
Check them out.

Bring your drawing tools for solid value studies!
This is the key, the cake, the foundation.
Bring your watercolors if you wish.

Photos are also great to draw from and you will have them at home to finish.

See you Thursday!

Astrid - beautiful inside and out! Charcoal on Fabriano Artistico Those of you that attended the Steven Assael Workshops at the Boca Museum School know of his practice to clip his palette next to his painting for a seamless evaluation of color.  Look at this cool product by David Jon Kassan. The parallel palette comes in two sizes. Check this out! David Jon Kassan Beautiful blended skin tone palette. His technique differs from the full palette of Steven Assael. Different results, both exquisite.  Check out his sketchbook live videos. Be prepared to learn from this man. I just realized he is having a week long workshop in Civita Italy - one week painting from a nude model. I am finishing some of my life drawings and will be posting them on facebook and this blog.  Is anyone interested in small classes at my studio? My ideas are open and limited to up to 5 - 6 students. Cost will depend on demand and model fees. Life drawing with ...

Monday, April 26 Figures at ArtServe

Vesna will be our model. I concentrated on tonal drawings in my Thursday class. I would like to stress tonal patterns in this class. Check out the figure drawings of Mark Tennant. http://www.marktennantart.com/drawings_n.html If you look closely, you will see beautiful action gesture lines. Notice how the edges disappear. His drawings are painterly because he identifies bold shape patterns. Check out Jean Marcellino. Here are her roman staue drawings http://www.naje.com/rome/ And beautiful figures. Notice how she incorporates the background to describe the figure. http://www.barebrush.com/gallery.php?artwork_id=2309 John Singer Seargent He saw light so perfectly and depicted it so simply I will reference him forever He draws and paints to perfection Notice how simply he states details with blocks of value Sometimes what seems to be so detailed is the flick of the corner of a square brushhttp://www.johnsingersargent.org/ See you tomorrow morn at about 9:30! It always seems to be raining...
