Monday, April 26 Figures at ArtServe
















Vesna will be our model.
I concentrated on tonal drawings in my Thursday class.
I would like to stress tonal patterns in this class.

Check out the figure drawings of Mark Tennant.
If you look closely, you will see beautiful action gesture lines.
Notice how the edges disappear.
His drawings are painterly because he identifies bold shape patterns.

Check out Jean Marcellino.
Here are her roman staue drawings
And beautiful figures.
Notice how she incorporates the background to describe the figure.


John Singer Seargent
He saw light so perfectly and depicted it so simply
I will reference him forever
He draws and paints to perfection
Notice how simply he states details with blocks of value
Sometimes what seems to be so detailed is the flick of the corner of a square

Lucky me. I arrived in Singapore to find their Biennale in the Singapore Art Museum and other Museums and institutions around town. Drawing Class March 4, 2010

FINALLY!!!! Hands Hands Hands I will show you the anatomy of your lower arms, wrist and hands. You will understand the underlying basic shapes and proportions of your wrist, thumb and fingers. I will bring some of my anatomy books with incredible drawings. Please bring your sketchbooks, pencils and erasers and some tracing paper. I will bring a roll if you don't have any for class. Find pictures in magazines or photos of hands. Bring them to class. Try to find foreshortened views. (Yes, that F word!) We will be finding the shapes in the photos. You will be tracing the anatomy so you understand it when you observe your own hands. You are your best model. Perfect sketchbook fodder. Waiting for anything will never be boring again!
